December 1st - Leicester came from behind to beat Everton and make it six wins on the bounce. Richarlison had Everton in front but goals from Vardy and Iheanacho saw the 2016 champions cut Liverpool's lead to eight points once again. With games against Man City and Liverpool in December, Brendan Rodgers side could find them selves right in the title mix at the end of the month... Life after Unai Emery started with a two-all draw at Norwich for Arsenal. They needed two equalisers from Pierre Emerick Aubamayang to earn a point after goals from Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell. It also finished two-all at Old Trafford where Tyrone Mings scored late on for the visitors. Sunday's third draw was a one-all result at Molineaux. Lys Mousset scored for Sheffield United but Matt Doherty earned the hosts a point in the second half. Three people share the lead on 25 points after Sunday's games - Aidan Scanlon, Callum Dunne and Dave McGinley. Gary McGurk is one point back with Paul Moore completing the top five. December 3rd to 8th - A double round of games saw Liverpool move fourteen points clear of Man City. Liverpool beat Everton five-two in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday night. Jurgen Klopp's squad rotation paid off in that with one with Divock Origi scoring twice and Xherdan Shaqiri also finding the net. Marco Silva duly collected his P45 after that one with the Toffees dropping into the bottom three on Wednesday night. Liverpool made it two wins in four days with when they scored three without reply at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita and Salah gave them a comfortable win on the South Coast. Man United earned the bragging rights in Manchester with a two-one win at the Etihad on Saturday night. Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial scored for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side who won for the third time in five seasons at their neighbours. The most telling statistic from that game is that Man City have already dropped the same number of points this season than they did in the whole of last season. It ended a great week for Marcus Rashford who had already scored both goals in a two-one win over Spurs on Wednesday night. Leicester City are the team pursuing Liverpool. They also picked up six points this week. First of all, they beat Watford two-nil. Then they went to Aston Villa on Sunday and picked up another three points in a four-one win. Jamie Vardy scored in both games - he's now scored in eight games in a row for the Foxes who now remain eight points behind the leaders. Duncan Ferguson was in charge of Everton for Chelsea's visit on Saturday. They duly benefitted from the new manager bounce as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored twice in a three-one win. That defeat leaves Chelsea five points ahead of Man United and Wolves with Tottenham a further point back. Wolves drew two-all at Brighton on Sunday in an entertaining game. Tottenham bounced back from defeat at Old Trafford earlier in the week with Heung-Son Min scoring a definite goal of the season contender in a five-nil win over Burnley. Watford remain bottom of the table after a nil-all draw at home to Crystal Palace. Nigel Pearson will be in the Vicarage Road hotseat for the rest of the season / until he's sacked - delete as appropriate!! Norwich are second from bottom following their two-one defeat at home to Sheffield United. Southampton looked like moving out of the bottom three until two late goals from Newcastle on Sunday saw the Toon Army move into the top half of the table. Jonjo Shelvey scored for the third consecutive game in that one. A double week of games saw Callum Dunne score an excellent 89 points to remain in first place in the December competition. Eamon Fox climbs to second in December after picking up 98 points this week. Gavin Morgan picked up the highest score this week - 99 points - to jump to third. The top five for December is completed by Dave McGinley and Damien Martin. Full details below: |

December 14th and 15th - Liverpool's relentless run continued with a two-nil win at home to Watford. Mo Salah scored a goal in each half as the Reds head off to the World Club Championship in fine fettle. Watford had some great chances but poor finishing in their first game under Nigel Pearson let them down. With Salah back in the goals and three clean sheets in a row, it's looking ominous for those pursuing the leaders. Their lead was ten points after Leicester slipped up at home to Norwich in the afternoon games. Norwich were in the lead through Teemu Pukki's ninth league goal of the season until a Tim Krul own goal evened things up at the Walker Stadium. Chelsea also slipped to another defeat. Dan Gosling scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge as Bournemouth picked up a surprise victory. That's a sixth league defeat of the season for Frank Lampard's side who remain in fourth place but anxiously looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack. Burnley picked up their first win in four after three heavy defeats - Chris Wood scored the only goal in their one-nil win at home to Newcastle. Sheffield United's remarkable return to the Premier League continued with a two-nil win at home to Aston Villa - John Fleck scored both goals in the second half as Chris Wilder's side climbed to fifth in the table on Saturday evening. Saturday's final game saw West Ham ease the pressure on under-fire Manuel Pellegrini, winning one-nil at Southampton courtesy of a Sebastian Haller goal. Sunday's games saw Man City keep a first clean sheet in ten points in a three-nil at hapless Arsenal. Kevin de Bruyne scored twice in that one. Tottenham climbed to fifth after Jan Vertonghen scored an injury time winner at Wolves. The final game of the weekend saw the points shared in the Moyes Derby - Man United and Everton drew one-all with Mason Greenwood equalising an earlier own goal from Victor Lindelof. Eamon Fox now leads the December competition. He has 140 points and is six points clear of Gavin Morgan and Mai-Ly Turner. Micheal Joyce is fourth closely followed by Callum Dunne, Caroline Carroll and Frank McSweeney. Full details below: |

December 21st and 22nd - Newly crowned World Cup Champions Liverpool © hold a ten point lead with a game in hand heading into the Christmas programme. Leicester headed to Man City on Saturday evening hoping to cut the deficit to seven points. All was going to plan when Jamie Vardy fired them ahead but the Champions dug deep with goals from Mahrez, Jesus and Gundogan to move to within a point of second place. Sheffield United picked up another three points on the road with a one-nil win at Brighton. Oliver McBurnie scored the only goal at the Amex Stadium. Man United's recent good run came to a shuddering halt at Watford - they crashed to a two-nil defeat at Vicarage Road following second half goals from Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney. Elsewhere on Saturday, Newcastle climbed into the top half of the table with a one-nil at home to Crystal Palace. Miguel Almiron scored the only goal for Steve Bruce's side in that one. Burnley won by the same scoreline at Bournemouth - Jay Rodriguez scored the winner in the last minute as Sean Dyche's side moved nine points clear of the relegation zone. Wolves came from behind to record a two-one win at Norwich. Todd Cantwell fired the Canaries ahead but second half goals from Romain Saiss and Raul Jiminez. That result consolidated Wolves' position in the top six. Carlo Ancelotti and Mikel Arteta were in attendance as their new clubs Everton and Arsenal played out a nil-all draw at Goodison Saturday lunchtime. Danny Ings scored twice at Villa Park as Southampton picked up an excellent three-one win. That's eleven league goals for the former Liverpool striker already this season.... The weekend ended with Tottenham falling to defeat at home to Chelsea. Willian scored twice as Frank Lampard's side beat their old boss Jose Mourinho and his new side. Chelsea's return to form sees them open up a four point gap to fifth place. A low enough scoring week saw Callum Dunne regain top spot in the monthly competition. He's moved two points ahead of Eamon Fox with Frank McSweeney and Gavin Morgan a further three points behind. Kris Stainton is fifth - with two full rounds of games still to go there's plenty to play for in December.... |

December 26th to 29th - Liverpool hold a thirteen point lead (with a game in hand!) heading into 2020. Two excellent wins in four days leave the Reds as odds-on favourites to win their first title in thirty years. A trip to Leicester on St Stephen's night looked tricky after heading back from Qatar. However, a statement performance and a four-nil win laid down a marker for the rest of the league. Goals from Firmino (2), Milner and Alexander-Arnold sent the travelling Reds home in great form. Things got even better the following night when Man City surrendered a two-nil lead at Wolves, losing three-two. Two Raheem Sterling goals looked to be keeping Man City in touch but three late goals from Traore, Jiminez and Doherty had Pep Guardiola conceding the title at the end. Wolves then travelled to Anfield on Sunday and will count themselves unlucky to have left empty-handed after a VAR dominated game in which Sadio Mane scored the only goal that counted. Man City picked up three points in their second game - goals from Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne saw off the challenge of Sheffield United. A mixed few days for Chelsea saw them lose two-nil at home to Southampton but win at Arsenal. Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, lead with five minutes to go but goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham saw Frank Lampard's side open up a four point gap to fifth place. Man United occupy fifth place after two good wins - four-one at home to Newcastle followed by a two-nil win at Burnley. Tottenham are a point further back - they beat Brighton two-one on St Stephen's Day but were surprisingly then held to a two-all draw at Norwich - they needed a late Harry Kane penalty to share the points in that one. That result left the Canaries six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table. Watford, benefitting from the new manager bounce of Nigel Pearson, picked up four points from a draw at Sheffield United and a victory at home to Aston Villa. Two defeats for West Ham left them a point outside the relegation zone. Manuel Pellegrini collected his P45 after two-one defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester. Elsewhere, Carlo Ancelotti started his managerial reign at Everton with two wins - Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in both games - at home to Burnley and away to Newcastle. Crystal Palace finished 2019 in ninth place - they followed up their win over West Ham with a one-all draw at Southampton. The Saints are four points clear of the drop zone following that draw and their win at Chelsea. It's congratulations to Callum Dunne who won a very competitive December competition with a score of 250 points. Three people - Damien Martin, Eamon Fox and Graham Goodwin finished just two points behind. Full details below: |
