November 2nd and 3rd - Liverpool's remarkable ability to score late on came to the fore again at Villa Park. Trailing to a Trezeguet goal with just three minutes to go, full back Andy Robertson popped up with a header at the back post to equalise. Not settling for a point, Sadio Mane then headed home a Trent Alexander Arnold corner in the fourth minute of injury time to turn nil points into three. Man City also came from behind to pick up three points. James Ward-Prowse had Southampton leading at the Etihad before late goals from Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker earned the three points for Pep Guardiola's side. The top two meet at Anfield next Sunday... Chelsea consolidated their position in the top four with a three-one win at Watford. Goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic saw Frank Lampard's side continue their good start to the season. Man United's revival stalled at the Vitality Stadium. Former player Josh King, recommended to Fergie by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scored the only goal of the game just before half time as Bournemouth climbed to seventh in the table. Sheffield United's great start to life in the Premier League continued with a three-nil win at home to Burnley - John Lundstram scored twice with John Fleck adding the third as Chris Wilder's side sat in sixth place on Saturday evening. Elsewhere on Saturday, Shane Duffy scored the second as Brighton beat Norwich two-nil to move into the top half of the table. Newcastle were three up at West Ham before holding on for a three-two win in the Andy Carroll derby. Arsenal's indifferent form continued - they were held to a one-all draw by Wolves despite taking the lead through Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Raul Jiminez headed an equaliser for the visitiros in the second half. Sunday's games saw Leicester regain third place with victory at Crystal Palace. Caglar Soyuncu and Jamie Vardy scored the goals as Brendan Rodgers side recorded their seventh victory of the season. The game between Everton and Tottenham finished in a one-all draw. Cenk Tosun equalised after Dele Alli had opened the scoring. That match, however, was overshadowed by a horror injury to Andre Gomes. Four people picked up an excellent score of 47 points to share the lead after the opening weekend - Aidan White, John Brophy, Ralph Goodwin and Roisin Joyce - full details below: |

November 8th to 10th - Liverpool's relentless season continued with a three-one win at home to champions Man City. Early goals from Fabinho and Salah saw the Reds off to a flier. Sadio Mane added a third early in the second half before Bernardo Silva pulled one back late on. A few half chances followed but Jurgen Klopp's side saw the game out to move nine points clear of the champions. Kenny Cunningham was unavailable for comment following his comments earlier in the week.... Leicester and Chelsea share second place. Leicester scored two without reply at home to Arsenal. Jamie Vardy and James Maddison scored the goals in the second half. Chelsea also scored twice in the second half through Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic whose prolific run of goals continued. Frank Lampard's side vist Man City in the next game after the international break with the champions sitting in fourth place. Interesting times ahead. The weekend opened with Watford recording their first win of the season. Gerard Deulofeu and Andre Gray scored the goals as they swapped places with Norwich at the bottom of the table. Southampton remain in the bottom three after losing two-one at home to Everton - Richarlison scored the winner late on to ease the pressure on Marco Silva. Danny Ings had earlier scored for the Saints after Tom Davies opened the scoring for the Toffees. Tottenham's poor season continued - they were held to a one-all draw by Sheffield United. George Baldock equalised Son Heung-Min's opener. Spurs are now fourteenth in the table, eleven points off the Champions League places. The Blades are in fifth place, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference. Sheffield United had earlier been denied an equaliser after a three and a half minute review of a David McGoldrick goal... Man United didn't get a penalty this week but still managed to pick up a three-one win at home to Brighton - Marcus Rashford scored in that one as United moved to seventh in the table. Wolves also won on Sunday - they beat Aston Villa two-nil in the Black Country derby at Molineaux. Elsewhere on Saturday, Ciaran Clark scored the winner as Newcastle came from behind to beat Bournemouth. Burnley scored three without reply at home to West Ham to climb into the top half of the table too. Three people share the lead in the November competition - Andy Dunne, Damian Martin and Gary McGurk all have 92 points. Gavin Morgan is fourth with Darragh Kenny in fifth heading into the international break. Full details below: |

November 23rd and 24th - The international break often throws up a managerial change and this one proved no exception. Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the hotseat at Tottenham in time for their visit to West Ham. Three goals in the first fifty minutes from Son, Moura and Kane secured the points before late consolations from Antonio and Ogbonna gave the scoreline a bit of respectability for the home fans. After twelve away games without a win, The Special One passed his first test. Liverpool struck yet another late winner to maintain their eight point lead at the top. Sadio Mane opened the scoring at Selhurt Park after the hosts had a goal ruled out after a VAR intervention. Wilfried Zaha equalised with ten minutes to go but Roberto Firmino picked the ideal time to score his first league goal since September to secure another three points for the leaders. Leicester, their nearest challengers, scored twice in the second half to remain in second place - goals from Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy saw them over the line at Brighton. Man City swapped places with Chelsea to move back into third place after winning their Saturday evening clash. N'Golo Kante had the visitors ahead before Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez scored to get the champions back to winning ways. Elsewhere on Saturday, the pressure increased on a couple of under-fire managers. Arsenal stumbled to a two-all draw at home to Southampton. They needed two goals from Alexander Lacazette to cancel out strikes from Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse. Marco Silva's days at Goodison Park look numbered after a two-nil defeat at home to Norwich. Todd Cantwell and Dennis Srbeny scored as the Canaries moved off the bottom of the table. Wolves moved up to fifth in the table after a two-one win at Borunemouth - Moutinho and Jiminez were on the scoresheet in that one. Watford dropped to the bottom after their three-nil defeat at home to Burnley. Super Sunday lived up to it's name for once - Sheffield United raced into a two goal lead at home to Man United. I left the computer to get a cup of tea and by the time I got back Solskjaer was back at the wheel, leading three two. However, Oli McBurnie had the final word scoring a last minute equaliser to ensure the points were shared.... Gavin Morgan and Kris Stainton share the lead in the November competition with one week to go. They're one point clear of Richard Johnston with Darragh Kenny and myself completing the top five. With a week to go in this month's contest, there might be a turkey on the table yet this Christmas.... |

November 30th - Liverpool ended the month eleven points clear at the top of the table. They recorded yet another two-one win, this time at home to Brighton. The Reds were in cruise control when Virgil van Dijk headed home two first half goals. Brighton got back into the game when Lewis Dunk fired home a free-kick late on. That free came after Alisson was sent off for handling outside the box. He misses Wednesday night's Merseyside Derby as a result but will be relieved that his side held on for victory. Man City were twice ahead at Newcastle but failed to hold on to their lead. Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne had the champions ahead but goals from Jetro Willems and Jonjo Shelvey (ex-Red!) pegged Pep Guardiola's side back. Jose Mourinho's good start to life at Tottenham continued with a three-two win at home to Bournemouth. Two Deli Alli goals and a strike from Moussa Sissoko had them three-up before Harry Wilson scored a couple of consolation goals for the visitors. Tottenham are now fifth in the table after two wins so far under the new manager. Quique Sanchez Flores joined Unai Emery on the dole queue after Watford lost two-one at Southampton. The Hornets led through Ismaili Sarr's opener but two goals in the last twelve minutes from Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse saw the Saints pick up just their third win of the season. Aaron Cresswell scored the winner as West Ham shocked Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to ease the pressure on Manuel Pellegrini. Saturday's final game saw Crystal Palace move into the top half of the table. Wilfried Zaha and Jeffrey Schlupp scored the goals against Burnley at Turf Moor. The late goals at St Marys decided our latest monthly competition. Kris Stainton picked up five points to win by just three points from Gavin Morgan and myself. Richard Johnston finished fourth, a further point back with Damien Martin and Mai-Ly Turner sharing fifth place. Full details below: |
