September 1st - Everton got back to winning ways with a three-two win at home to Wolves. An entertaining game at Goodison was level twice. Richarlison's opener was cancelled out by Romain Saiss. Alex Iwobi's first goal for the Toffeemen had them ahead again only for Raul Jiminez to score a second equaliser. Richarlison had the final word though, scoring the winner with just ten minutes to go. That win saw Everton climb to sixth in the table, level on points with fourth placed Crystal Palace. The North London Derby ended with the points and four goals shared. Spurs squandered a two goal lead - they were two up following goals from Eriksen and Kane. However, Arsenal's deadly duo with the hard to spell names of Lacazette and Aubameyang earned a point for Unai Emery's team. Andy Dunne's ten pointer from the North London Derby had double significance. It means he shares the early lead for September with Con McSweeney and became the last player in the competition to record their first ten-pointer of the season (you don't get analysis like this on yer other websites...). A few people are just two points behind - the list includes Dave McGinley (breathing a bit easier after Dublin's late equaliser today), Eoghan Farrelly and Gerry Draper. Full details below: |

September 14th and 15th - Dublin weren't the only team to make it five in a row this weekend. Liverpool came from behind to beat Newcastle three-one at Anfield and make it fifteen points from fifteen after five games. The excellently named Jetro Williams gave the Toon Army an early lead but two goals from Sadio Mane sent the Reds in ahead at the break. Mo Salah wrapped up the win with the third in the second half. If the mood was good around Anfield (and on the half seven flight back from John Lennon Airport) after that result it got even better when Man City fell to a shock defeat at Norwich. With Aymeric Laporte ruled out for four to five months with injury, Norwich took full advantage hitting the champions for three with goals through McLean, Pukki and Cantwell. City couldn't find a way back into the game despite goals from Aguero and Rodri and now trail Jurgen Klopp's side by five points. Tottenham moved into third place on Saturday evening with a four-nil win at home to Crystal Palace. A much needed win was sealed by half time with goals from Son (2), Lamela and an own goal from Van Aanholt. Man United joined them on eight points winning the Harry Maguire Derby one-nil at Old Trafford against Leicester. Their winner came from a Marcus Rashford penalty early on. Chelsea also picked up an eye-catching win hitting Wolves for five at Molineaux. Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick with Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount also on the scoresheet. Southampton moved into the top half of the table - they beat Sheffield United one-nil at Bramall Lane thanks to a Moussa Djenepo second half goal. Everton's defeat at Bournemouth meant they missed out on a chance to join Man City in second place on ten points. The Cherries three-one victory saw Callum Wilson score twice with Ryan Fraser adding a third. Everton had been level at halft-time following Dominic Calvert-Lewin's equaliser. Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead at Watford as they drew two-all for the second consecutive game. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice in the first half but it was all downhill from there for the Gunners. Tom Cleverly oulled one back and another David Luiz penalty concession allowed Roberto Pererya to earn the Hornets their second point of the season. A score of 45 points from this weekend's games so far sees Kevin Philpott move into the lead in the September competition. He has a one-point lead over Aidan Scanlon who scored 51 points this week - both players had picked up an extra fifteen points for predicting Javi Gracia would be the first to collect his P45 this season. Bobby Hynes was the other person to pick up bonus points in the sack race. The top five for the month so far is completed by Niall Carroll in fourth and Con McSweeney and Trevor Byrne who share fifth place. |

September 20th to 22nd - The weekend's action opened with Bournemouth winning the South Coast Derby three-one at Southampton. The Wilson brother (Harry and Callum ; )) were joined on the scoresheet by Nathan Ake as Eddie Howe's side picked up three points and climbed to the nosebleed territory of fourth in the table for a couple of days at least. Watford must hate the sight of Man City at this stage. After shipping six goals at Wembley in the cup final in May, they went two better at the Etihad losing eight-nil. City had six different scorers including Bernardo Silva who scored a hat-trick. Let's face it, even Long John Silva would have been a good bet for a goal in that one by the sounds of it. Everton slumped to a two-nil defeat at home to Sheffield United at Goodison. Yerry Mina scored an own goal to open the scoring with Lys Mousset adding the insurance second with just ten minutes left. That result leaves Chris Wilder's side sitting pretty in the top half ahead of Liverpool's visit to Bramall Lane next Saturday. Brendan Rodgers won his last five games against Tottenham as Liverpool manager and that trend continued as his Leicester side came from behind to win two-one at the Walker Stadium. Harry Kane opened the scoring but second half goals from Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison completed the comeback which saw Leicester in third place after Saturday's games. Elsewhere on Saturday, Chris Wood scored twice as Burnley beat Norwich two-nil at Turf Moor. Newcastle and Brighton finished scoreless at St James' Park as both sides settled for a point. Sunday saw four games taking place in London. Man United's indifferent start to the season continued as they lost two-nil at West Ham. Yarmolenko and Cresswell scored as Manuel Pellegrini became the first manager to record victories over four different Man United managers in the Premier League era. Crystal Palace looked to be heading to victory against Wolves at Selhurst Park but a 95th minute Diego Jota equaliser earned a well needed point for the visitors. Arsenal despite being down to ten men, came from behind to beat Aston Villa three-two at the Emirates. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winner with six minutes to go. The final game of the weekend saw Liverpool make it six wins from six with a two-one win at Chelsea. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino scored as the leaders amde it fifteen wins in a row in the Premier League. A score of 45 points from this week's games sees Gary Fitzpatrick move into first place in the September competition. Gerard McCluskey has climbed to second place but trails the leader by 15 points. The top five for September with one week to go is completed by Aidan Scanlon, John Brophy and Kevin Philpott - full details below: |

September 28th to 30th - Liverpool had to work very hard to maintain their five point lead at the top of the table. They scored the only goal of the game at Bramall Lane when a Gini Wijnaldum shot slipped through the hands of Sheffield United keeper Dean Henderson's hands with just twenty minutes to go. Man City scored twice late on to keep up their pursuit of the leaders. A Riyad Mahrez free-kick put them two-one in front at Everton before Raheem Sterling sealed the three points with his one-hundredth career goal. All the more sweeter for the ex-Liverpool player that it came at Goodison Park no doubt.... Tottenham got back to winning ways with a two-one win at home to Southampton. Tanguy Ndombele opened the scoring before a Hugo Lloris howler allowed Danny Ings to equalise. Harry Kane scored the winner with just a couple of minutes to go to half time. Spurs held on for the win despite Serge Aurier being sent off for two yellow cards in four minutes midway through the first half. Chelsea were another London side picking up a badly needed victory. Their two-nil success at home to Brighton marked their first home victory of the season. The goals came in the second half from Jorginho and Willian. Two of the Saturday afternoon games ended in two-all draws. Aston Villa and Burnley shared the points at Villa Park. Villa were ahead twice but Chris Wood's first league goal of of the season ensured Sean Dyche's side took a point back to Lancashire. It was a similar outcome at the Vitality Stadium where Bournemouth and West Ham shared the points. Goals from Yarmolenko and Cresswell for the Hammes were cancelled out by Joshua King and Callum Wilson. Wolves got their first win of the season with a two-nil win at home to bottom side Watford - Matt Doherty and a Daryl Janmaat own goal sent the Moulineux faithful home happy. Crystal Palace moved into the top half of the table with a two-nil win at home to Norwich - Luka Milivojevic opened the scoring with a penalty before Andros Townsend added a second in injury time for the Eagles. Leciester's five-nil win at home to Newcastle saw them move up to third place in the table ahead of their visit to Anfield next Saturday. Monday night's one-all draw between Man United and Arsenal saw Gary Fitzpatrick confirmed as the winner of the monthly competition for September. Roisin Joyce finished in second place with the top five for the month completed by Gerard McCluskey, Anastas Popov and Con McSweeney: |
